Religious Liberty and Christian Culture
Religious Liberty
In order for Christian principles and Christian culture to take root in society, the rights and liberty of the Church and her children must be protected and secured.
As Pope Leo XIII wrote in 1885, “To exclude the Church, founded by God Himself, from life, from laws, from the education of youth, from domestic society is a grave and fatal error. A State from which religion is banished can never be well regulated[…]”
Pope Pius XI further explains in 1925, “[W]ith God and Jesus Christ[…] excluded from political life… human society is tottering to its fall, because it has no longer a secure and solid foundation.”
Yet today we see culture and governments continuing banish the Church and her members from society which has resulted in:
- Healthcare workers required to participate in abortions or transgender surgeries
- Denying workers and business owners to the freedom to act according to their religious beliefs
- Forcing Catholic social organizations to pay for contraceptive services for its employees or adoptions to same sex couples
- Churches closed by order of the government
- Religious organizations required to pay for healthcare plans containing immoral services
- Attempting to reject, in some places, the sacred seal of the Sacrament of Reconciliation
The Carolina Family Coalition is committed to helping you defend the liberty of the Church as well as the conscience rights of her members in society, for only when these rights are protected, can Christian culture have the freedom to flourish.
“When once men recognize, both in private and in public life, that Christ is King, society will at last receive the great blessings of real liberty, well-ordered discipline, peace and harmony.” – Pius XI, Quas Primas, 1925

The Restoration of Christian Culture
For a society to flourish, the culture, in all its institutions, also needs to permeate with Christian teachings.
Yet today we see modern society has abandoned the Gospel and the teachings that built Christian civilization. It has instead replaced it with atheistic ideologies and naturalistic philosophies that harm human dignity and threaten the family’s existence.
To counter this, a Catholic response to the culture in the Carolinas is needed, one that goes beyond merely upholding the moral teachings to one that also presents and applies the rich Catholic social teachings and principles necessary to remedy the different and deep ways the culture of death manifests itself in society and undermines the moral decisions of people and families. These areas include the arts (music, film, architecture), the trades, business, economics, law, labor, politics, medicine, agriculture, education, among others.
When grounded in Christian principles, these facets of culture create conditions where Christian teachings can flourish, and serve as society’s guide posts to help inform and daily support the consciences of its citizens along their journey to eternity. Only by presenting and advocating Catholic moral and social teachings to these fields – which serve as the building blocks to Christian culture – can a restoration begin.
The Carolina Family Coalition, in its effort to defend life, marriage and family, promotes and intends to reintroduce Catholic principles as well as the moral and social teachings across various fields of society, to help you begin to restore Christian culture in your community.
