Pro-Life
We believe everyone is made in the image and likeness of God, and that “life comes from God; it is His gift, His image and imprint[...]” (Pope St. John Paul II, Evangelium Vitae).
As such we believe in the sanctity of human life from conception until natural death as this teaching is fundamental to humanity and society.
As the Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches (CCC # 2273), “The inalienable right to life of every innocent human individual is a constitutive element of a civil society[…] and when this right is deprived “the very foundations of a state based on law are undermined…”
Yet today, we see the very foundations of society are indeed undermined by legalized abortion, euthanasia (now in several states), contraception, aborted fetal cell research, In Vitro Fertilization (IVF), and other methods that prevent or prematurely end innocent human life.
We take up Pope St. John Paul II’s charge to “defend and promote life, to show reverence and love for it” and to mobilize local Catholics to the effort of upholding the sanctity of human life.

We promote this through our programs, Carolina Pro-Life Action Network (C-PLAN) which helps to activate Catholics to participate in pro-life initiatives at their parishes and in their community; Catholic Health Professionals of Charlotte (CHPC) which assists Catholic healthcare workers in bringing the Church’s teaching on life back into the fields of medicine and science; and the monthly prayer Vigil of the Two Hearts, which prays for an end to abortion.
Yet the task is great as:
- North Carolina is an abortion destination state
- Some families are unaware of the moral and health dangers of contraception and birth control and its connection to abortion.
- Support for euthanasia is growing across the country
In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is widespread, and with it many extra embryos are either cruelly frozen for eternity or tragically discarded (aborted) - Surrogacy continues to grow, and new bioethical threats like artificial wombs, cloning, or In vitro gametogenesis (IVG) loom on the horizon
What is needed are not only pro-life laws, but the conversion of hearts and minds of our neighbors. This can be done through the mobilization of Catholic laity through educational seminars, awareness campaigns, public square events, and prayer vigils. The Carolina Family Coalition can’t do this alone and we need you to join us in activating Catholics and others of good will to help defend the sanctity of life in our local communities.
